Rose Cousins debuts new Centre Stage series at the Empress Theatre
September 29 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm$37.50
Mega-talented, Juno-winning roots-pop musician Rose Cousins is the first performance of the Empress Theatre’s new season of music. Cousins starts off the Centre Stage series on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018 at 7:30 p.m.
Cousins’ evocative folk-pop songs and soaring vocals have earned her numerous accolades. Her music has landed on television shows including Grey’s Anatomy, Nashville and Heartland. Her voice is powerful and clear; her lyrics contemplative and emotional.
With a bright reputation on the national roots scene, Halifax-based Cousins enlisted Grammy-winning producer Joe Henry to create her fourth, most recent record, Natural Conclusion. The result is what Cousins calls “the most honest and vulnerable thing” she has made to-date.
Cousins was nominated for Songwriter of the Year at the 2018 Juno Awards, was nominated for Artist of the Year at the 2018 International Folk Awards, and was recently named “Best Artist to Enjoy Quietly” by Halifax’s weekly arts paper, The Coast. Natural Conclusion was also nominated for a 2018 Grammy award and eight East Coast Music Awards. It won Americana Album of the Year and Solo Album of the Year at the Music Nova Scotia Awards, and was included on the Polaris Music Prize’s “Longer List” in 2017.
Cousins’ album We Have Made a Spark won the 2013 Juno Award for best Solo Roots & Traditional Album of the Year. It also won three East Coast Music Awards, a Canadian Folk Music Award, was nominated for the Polaris Music Prize, and made best-of lists in USA Today, NPR Music and Oprah Magazine. Cousins also won a Canadian Folk Music Award for Contemporary Singer of the Year in 2012.
