Mission: The Senior Citizens Organization began in the 1960’s, and for many years met in member’s homes and rented halls. In 1975 the Town of Fort Macleod built the R.C.M.P. Centennial Building on Main Street. One half of the building was to be a Public Library and the other half a Senior Citizens Centre. The seniors names their half “The Welcome Mat”, and in October 1975 “The Senior Citizens Welcome Mat” was officially registered as a non-profit society. The purpose of the Senior Citizen Welcome Mat is to enhance the mental and physical well being of seniors by providing a variety of opportunities for social interaction,

Recreation and physical activities. Also, to help seniors remain healthy, active and independent for as long as possible.

Activities: Alberta Seniors Games, bocce ball, pool, shuffleboard, bridge, whist, cribbage, exercise group, senior’s choir, teas and bake sales, craft sales and raffles, potluck suppers, lunches for birthday parties, funerals or special anniversaries, a monthly trip to Lethbridge for shopping, visits or medical appointments, etc. Exchange visits with other senior centers.
