Open House - Land Use Bylaw

The Town of Fort Macleod and the Oldman River Regional Services Commission have worked on  reviewing and updating the Land Use Bylaw which is the document that guides all land use and development within the Town of Fort Macleod. The current bylaw dates back to 2019 when the administration section was updated. With many amendments over the years a new bylaw has been drafted and is now available for public review and comment. Your participation provides a valuable contribution to the process of finalizing this bylaw.

Besides a general clean up and reconfiguration of sections, there are several important changes proposed for this document and we value your input in this engagement process. The proposed amendment includes, but is not limited to:

  • two new districts one for agriculture and one for Multi-unit residential development;
  • additional criteria requirements for group homes, gravel pits, secondary suites;
  • allowance for solar panels on roofs as a permitted use;
  • updated parking requirements per use;
  • new sections on use specific standards for:
    • Shipping Containers
    • Residential Sales Centers
    • Campgrounds
    • Data Mining Operations
    • Sandblasting, Welding and Fabrication Facilities
    • Short-Term Rental (tourist homes)
    • Setbacks from Steep Slopes and Waterbodies
    • Dwelling group
    • Electronic signs.

You can participate by attending the open house to learn more about the proposed bylaw, ask questions and provide feedback to Council and the Planning Team. The open house will be a drop in format with no formal presentation. Your feedback on the draft Land Use Bylaw will be provided to Council for consideration before the final bylaw is presented for first reading and commencement of the adoption process.

If you are unable to attend in person, please review the draft Land Use Bylaw below and provide your feedback HERE.
