Tax Incentives
Currently, two different tax incentives are available in the Town of Fort Macleod. 
  • Non-Residential Tax incentive (Bylaw 1960)
  • Residential Multi-Unit Tax Incentive (Bylaw 1962)
Both incentives are designed to stimulate economic development and growth within Fort Macleod. More information for both tax incentive programs can be found below.

About

This three-year tax incentive aims to further stimulate economic development in the community by attracting new business investment and encouraging the expansion of existing business development in the Town of Fort Macleod.
  • 1st year - 100% Municipal property tax exemption
  • 2nd year - 75% Municipal property tax exemption
  • 3rd year - 50% Municipal property tax exemption

Qualifications

You may be eligible to qualify to apply for a non-residential exemption if you meet the following criteria:

  • There is a $50,000 increase in the assessed value of the non-residential property from the previous year as a result of new construction or expansion.   
  • You have no outstanding monies owing to the Town of Fort Macleod. 
  • The non-residential property is located in the geographical boundaries of the Town of Fort Macleod. 
  • All required building and development permits have been obtained for the qualifying property. 

Application

Applicants of qualifying properties must submit a complete application to the CAO with a $100.00 application fee by October 1st of the year prior to the year in which the exemption is to commence. 

Complete applications may be considered and approved by Council. If approved, a Tax Incentive Agreement shall be drafted.

APPLICATION FORM Non-Residential Tax Incentive

About

This four-year tax incentive aims to further stimulate the development of Residential Multi-Unit dwellings in the community by attracting new investment and encouraging the expansion of existing development by leveraging the authority given to municipalities by the province to provide incentives and encourage economic growth in the Town of Fort Macleod.
 
Qualifying properties must submit an application before the deadline for Council to approve entering into a four-year agreement. 
  • 1st year - 100% Municipal property tax exemption
  • 2nd year - 75% Municipal property tax exemption
  • 3rd year - 50% Municipal property tax exemption
  • 4th year - 25% Municipal property tax exemption

Qualifications

You may be eligible to qualify to apply for a residential multi-unit tax exemption if you meet the following criteria:

  • The qualifying property is zoned Residential Multi-Unit: R-MU as per the Town of Fort Macleod Land Use Bylaw.
  • There is a minimum $400,000 increase in the assessed value of the residential multi-unit property from the previous year as a result of new construction or expansion.   
  • There are a minimum of four units or dwellings on the property. 
  • You have no outstanding monies owing to the Town of Fort Macleod. 
  • The property is located in the geographical boundaries of the Town of Fort Macleod. 
  • All required building and development permits have been obtained for the qualifying property. 

Application

Applicants of qualifying properties must submit a complete application to the CAO with a $100.00 application fee by May 15th of the year in which the requested exemption is to commence. 

Complete applications will be considered and approved by Council. If approved, a Tax Incentive Agreement shall be drafted.
