2024 Asphalt Overlay Program
The Town of Fort Macleod prioritizes road maintenance based on classification and traffic volumes, with higher-volume roads receiving more frequent attention. Our year-round efforts include pothole filling and larger patching projects.
We undertake a road resurfacing program annually, removing and replacing the top layer of asphalt. Roads are chosen based on asset management timelines, deterioration levels, safety, and maintenance obstructions.
In 2024, the Town Council will spend $150,000.00 on asphalt overlay, focusing on 5th Avenue from the CP rail tracks (13th Street) to 17th Street and 5th Avenue from 20th Street to 23rd Street (Chief Red Crow Blvd). This decision is due to the impracticality and financial imprudence of continued preservation methods.
Ground Breakers Construction Inc. will handle this project, covering approximately 74,210 square feet of asphalt. The maintenance program may include:
- Milling or removing the existing asphalt surface
- Base preparation
- Tie-in to existing asphalt
- Supplying and installing storm and sewer manhole risers
- Supplying and installing catch basin risers
- Adjusting water valve risers
- Supplying, placing, and compacting asphalt
Construction for 5th Avenue is scheduled to begin July 15, 2024, and Sgt. Wilde Street Construction is scheduled to take place from July 17 to July 23, 2024.
