Residential Curbside Waste and Recycling Program

The Town of Fort Macleod partners with a third-party contractor to provide convenient curbside waste and recycling services to our residents. We offer weekly waste pickup and bi-weekly recycling pickup. Please see the collection schedule below for details.

Important Notice: Pickup dates may change during statutory holidays. Stay informed about schedule changes, critical events, and other important updates by downloading the Voyent Alert! App or registering online for free email, voice, or text alerts. Registration is simple, anonymous, and can be completed at Voyent Alert!

Holiday Schedule-Waste and Recycling

Residential waste and recycling will be picked up on the regular dates during the months of December 2024 and January 2025.

Commercial waste and recycling will have a change for Wednesday, December 25th, 2024.  This will be picked up on Thursday, December 26th, 2024.

Commercial waste and recycling will also have a change for Wednesday, January 1st, 2025.  This will be picked up on Thursday, January 2nd, 2025.

Collection Days for Residents

We have two current zones for pick up:

  • Zone 1 (North) has collection on Thursdays.
  • Zone 2 (South) has collection on Fridays.

Use this map to see what zone you are in. Still unsure? Contact the Operations Department at the Town of Fort Macleod and we would be happy to assist you. 

On collection day please have waste and recycling bins to the collection spot by 7:00am, you can pick up when emptied, or after 7:00pm that day.

Cart Placements

  • Carts should be at least 3 feet (1 meter) apart.
  • There should be at least 10 feet (3 meters) above your carts.
  • Please ensure bins are at least 3 feet (1 meter) away from any obstacles on either side.

Cart Care

Residents are responsible for cleaning and storing carts. If your cart has been damaged or is missing please call the Town Office at 403-553-4425 or Report a Problem here

Community Clean Up's

The Town of Fort Macleod is happy to offer multiple clean-ups two times a year, see below for our different collections: 

  • Household Waste
    • Residents will have the option to take a few items to a Town location. There is also the opportunity to take bulk waste to the Willow Creek Landfill.
  • Yard Waste
    • This is for compostable materials only. Leaves, grass and tree trimmings may be placed in your back alley prior to the Town's Collection date. Please do not use bags of any kind. 
  • Electronic Waste Round Up
    • This service is for household electronic waste only, no other materials, refrigerants, large appliances or liquids will be accepted. 
  • Hazardous Waste
    • E360s Technicians will be on-site during this clean-up to collect all hazardous materials, "Toxic, flammable, corrosive and reactive products."

Spring Clean-Up

Our Spring Clean-Up is typically the week following the Victoria Day Holiday in May, and includes the following collections:

  • Household Waste Clean-Up
  • Yard Waste Clean-Up
  • Electronic Waste Round-Up
  • Hazardous Waste Clean-Up

Fall Clean-Up

Our Fall Clean-Up is typically in early October, and includes the following collections:

  • Household Waste Clean-Up
  • Yard Waste Clean-Up
  • Electronic Waste Round-Up

Compost and Bulk Recycling Depot

The Town of Fort Macleod operates a Community Composting Site and Bulk Recycling Depot, both of which are located at 865 30th Street. This site is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 

The Compost Site accepts tree clippings, tree branches and grass clippings. 

The Bulk Recycling Depot accepts any loose mixed recycling in the large green bins.

Willow Creek Landfill

The Willow Creek Landfill Facility is located at 113053 Range Road 263 -South of Township 114 (Nw-22-11-26-W4th) for map location, click here

Tuesday 9:00 am - 4:30 pm
Wednesday 9:00 am - 4:30 pm
Thursday 9:00 am - 4:30 pm

Saturday Open the 2nd and 4th Saturday from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm, during May - October
Sunday Closed

Stronger Bin Latches 

The Town of Fort Macleod is conducting a study to test out stronger waste/recycling bin latches to keep the lids secured when closed. 

If you would like to participate in this study, please call the Town office, or contact the Operations department.

Sign Up for E-Billing and Go Paperless!

Starting January 1, 2025, the Town of Fort Macleod will introduce a $2.50 fee for each paper utility statement mailed to residents. To save on costs and reduce paper use, we encourage you to sign up for e-billing! With e-billing, you’ll receive your utility statements conveniently by email each month—free of charge.
